Why work with a college admissions consultant?
Higher education is one of the most important investments you and your child will ever make. College is not just a significant financial investment, it also represents a considerable investment in time, effort, and opportunities for your son or daughter.
But over the past couple of decades, the college admissions process has become increasingly more complex. College entrance requirements and expectations, the number of college applicants and applications submitted per student, and the competitiveness of college admissions have increased significantly.
When these trends are combined with the limited guidance offered in most high schools, information overload, and rising tuition costs, it is no surprise that the college admissions process has transformed the last years of high school into a time of great anxiety for students and their parents.
But it doesn’t have to be. With the proper guidance, it can actually be a exciting and empowering experience.
Your personal guide
My role as a college consultant is to help ease this anxiety and serve as a personal guide as students prepare for and embark on their unique college journey
My experience has taught me that for students to succeed academically, grow intellectually, thrive socially and emotionally, and take advantage of the resources and opportunities available to them in college, they need to be in a college environment that is a right fit for them.
But to find out what that “right fit” is, the student first must go through a process of preparation, self-discovery, and exploration.
Every student possesses a unique combination of traits: personality and temperament, strengths and limitations, talents, interests, preferences, academic accomplishments, learning style, life experiences, career and life goals, and financial circumstances.
Likewise, each college and university is different. Each offers a unique combination of academic, intellectual, social, and financial opportunities. Colleges also vary considerably in the degree of selectivity, setting, as well as in their “feel,” personality, or culture.
Drawing upon my previous experience in higher education, expertise in college counseling, and first-hand knowledge of different colleges and universities, I work closely with each student to find the colleges that will be a good match for them.
I get to know each student over time as I help them discover who they are and who they want to be, explore career options and potential majors, and identify schools and academic programs that are right for them. I then guide them step-by-step through the application and selection process, and prepare them for a smooth transition to college. For more details, please see my college planning curriculum.
